Overview

The conservation laboratory at the Yale Center for British Art is responsible for the care and preservation of the Center’s collections (works on paper, paintings, and sculpture), as well as works on paper and photographs from the Yale University Art Gallery. The department’s photographic holdings document conservation treatment and related projects of collection materials for both institutions, including before and after images for works on paper, photographs, miniatures, and bound materials. Photographs also document the technical art history of collection materials. Holdings include 500  black-and-white 35 mm film negatives (post-1950), 400  color film  negatives, and 100 color prints (including dye transfer and chromogenic prints), along with a large collection of slides, black-and-white prints, and digital images.
