Overview

Photographic holdings in the collection contain core primary research materials. Photographs are found in archives of literary papers, records of magazines and publishers, and as individual groups documenting historical and cultural moments related to the modern era (19th and 20th centuries, mainly Europe and Africa, but some from the United States). Also includes unique snapshots from personal collections, photographs in albums, and prints not available at other research libraries. Subjects include portraits of writers and artists, urban landscapes and events, views from around the world, artistic communities, and family snapshots.
